Savatra Anchient City
Founded at the foothills of Mount Bozdağ, the city, along with the neighboring ancient cities of Perta and Kana, is located in the easternmost part of the Lycaonia region. Many writers and researchers have mentioned the ancient city of Savatra from antiquity to the present day. Strabo describes Savatra (or Soatra) as a town near Garsaura (Aksaray), where the world's deepest wells were located, from which water was drawn. He also notes that, despite the lack of running water, a prosperous sheep farming was practiced in the country, and that water from deep wells was sold for money. Another traveler, Charles Texier, mentions Savatra in his work, "Asia Minor: Its Geography, History, and Archaeology," quoting and confirming Strabo's descriptions.
