Fresco from the Church of St. Helena
The dome of the Church of St. Helena features a depiction of Christ Pantokrator. The drum of the dome contains profiled, rounded arched frames depicting the prophets Moses, Solomon, David, and Daniel. The round medallions on the pendentives originally depicted the four Gospel writers; these images were removed and their places are now empty.
Twenty figures are carved beneath the four arches supporting the dome in the nave. The western arch depicts Adam and Eve plucking the forbidden fruit and their expulsion from paradise, along with an angel, the Egyptian saints Mary and Thecla; the northern arch depicts the prophets Elijah, Elisha, and Ezekiel, and an angel; the southern arch depicts the prophets Daniel and Nahum, and an angel; and the eastern arch depicts the "Eye of God."
